Visual research
An ongoing exploration of how photography shapes the way we see, remember, and experience life. Each video will be a glimpse into a point of influence, a place, a journey, or something that stayed with me and made me think. I’m sharing more than finished works, the fragments that shape them. In a way, this feels more exposed. It’s the raw process of thinking. These are my thoughts. I’d love to hear yours.

A Photograph of My Father
This next segment of I’m Thinking About Photography is dedicated to the still image. It began with a photograph of my father. Looking at photographs from the past can be painful. Not only because they remind us of what has been lost, but because they preserve a future that has not happened yet. In this image, my father is young, confident, and full of promise. The photograph holds him there forever. But I know what came next. I know how his life unfolded. I know the years of Parkinson’s disease that followed, and the impact they had on him and on our family. The photograph insists on one truth. Time insists on another. This work was inspired by Roland Barthes’ Camera Lucida and by the tension between the still image and the passing of time.
